Is the European Vacations Ltd free holiday offer some kind of scam?
I’ve had an offer of a free holiday for 2 to Turkey (inc flights & accommodation, though there may be seasonal supplements and half board supplements to pay) from European Vacations Ltd. They ask for £20 admin fee up front. They say it’s nothing to do with time-share sales. Has anyone taken up this offer? Is it a scam? Are there hidden extras? Or was it a decent holiday? Why are they doing it?
It is a genuine offer, I paid the £20 admin fee and went to Turkey with my wife this February. The only thing we had to pay was the seasonal supplement. We also chose to take the half board option but that was a personal choice, there is no compulsion. The tour was very well organised, we stayed in some really good hotels and had a brilliant time. The tour guides are officially licensed by the Turkish Tourist board and speak excellent English and are very helpful.
European Vacations market the holidays in this way in the hope that satisfied clients will recommend them to their friends. The Turkish tourist Board gains from having people visit their beautiful country and also spending money in some of their state owned shops (but again that is optional expenditure) If you go, you would benefit from having an extremely good value holiday. I have now been on three European Vacations holidays, Paris, Italy and Turkey and can definitely confirm there is no time share sales, or scam. What you get is a superb tour with knowledgeable guides at bargain prices.

well the question you need to ask yourself is – did I enter a competition to win a free holiday to Turkey ? If the answer is no, then the likelihood is that it is some sort of scam. You might well get your holiday, but you already say there might be seasonal supplements and half-board supplements etc etc – so its not a free holiday then is it ? Any company that asks a £20 admin free up front is dodgy. What is the £20 for ?? Basically you might get there, but you will be pushed into signing up for some sort of holiday club. They won’t say its timeshare, as they know at the sound of that word, people will run a mile.
You will probably get invited to some sort of presentation in this country before you are allowed on your ‘free’ holiday, Once abroad you will be subjected to a series a pressurised sales presentations. They will want you to sign up to something.
Please don’t respond to them. I got offered much the same once when I filled a holiday survey in, in the street. Now they used to stop shoppers most Saturdays for these holidays surveys (offering the chance of a free holiday if your name was selected) and I always filled it in and never won. Anyway one time I said I was a couple rather than single and never thought anything of it… that week I won the free holiday. I was called and asked to ring this number to claim the ‘free holiday’.
Out of interest I typed the number into Google and it brought up the same of a ‘holiday company’ was was a bit dodgy. Basically they targeted couples with their own house and earning over a set amount. So no co-incidence when the week I was a couple, I won !
When I didn’t call, they called me to find out why I was turning down a free holiday. When I told them what I had read on Google, the guy got quite abusive with me and I had to put the phone down;
