Are there any special vacation packages for spouses of the men and women stationed in Iraq?

I have a friend who’s husband was just sent back to Iraq for the second time and I wanted to see if I could find some sort of vacation package where she could go and just kind of take her mind off of things for a weekend. Anyone know of anything special?

Ahhtchoo had about the best answer that can be given. Depending upon where you are stationed there are different options. If you cant find anything there maybe you could go to a massage school or something for the day. You should tag along with her for a "girls" day. The prices would be much cheaper at the school versus an actual spa. Good luck!

Check and see if anyone’s got a military discount (she’ll be eligible for one, but you may need to book in her name while you pay for it), if you’re looking on your own.

Other than that, check with the department of morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) on her base… they’ve got plenty of discounted activities and stuff for military and their dependents.

That’s really sweet of you… you should go with her and have a girls weekend, she’d probably appreciate the company.

    Good for you!

There are packages by many companies with military discounts. I would recommend this site: http://benefits.military.com/discount-center/travel.
This is a starting point for any military member or dependent to look for travel/vacation options. The person’s local MWR or ITT office will have information as well. Hope this helps.

Air fare will be another issue, most airlines offer military discount but if you plan far enough ahead you could get a better fare without it. The discount is mainly for last-minute travels.

Also check out this site, its free to join and it lists other businesses where a military discount is being offered:

    Good luck.
