Press Release
CEA Applauds Creation of ABCDOHA Coalition and Urges Completion of IT/Electronics Sectorial Agreement Arlington, Va., October 25, 2005- The following statement was issued today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEAŽ) President and CEO Gary Shapiro: "CEA strongly supports the successful completion of the WTO Doha Development Round and particularly the completion of an IT/electronics sectoral agreement, which would allow the consumer electronics industry to realize its full potential. Consumer electronics (CE) is a vital and growing sector, yet most CE products are still subject to significant tariff rates and non-tariff barriers around the globe. For this reason, CEA applauds the creation of the ABCDoha Coalition, and we look forward to working collectively to support the efforts of our U.S. negotiators in successfully completing the Doha Development Round." According to CEA Market Research, Global CE sales were approximately $283 billion dollars last year, and of that, U.S. sales accounted for $113 billion. This year, U.S. sales are expected to grow by another 9 percent.
