Has anyone just showed up in taipei without hotel reservations?

Did you use the airport’s hotel reservation desk?

I’ve done it once a long time ago.

There are plenty of hotels around Taipei Station and Ximenting where you could get a room but you generally pay full rate for the room as a walk in client.

You have to be careful not to arrive during a major holiday period as there is a lot of domestic travel now a days and the Budget hotels get filled up.

The Hotel reservation desk here is not that hot.

I would never ever just "show up", especially at a location that I’ve never been to, without having done research and having a reservation already made as far in advance as possible.

    But that’s just me…

yeah i just showed up, but i also had connections with te locals. you could probably just show up anywhere and get something, or just try different places. but it depends on when you are going, some times of the year there are more openings than others.

It is a bad idea, unless you have local friends receiving you.

I wouldn’t even dream of it. No I haven’t but If you’re stuck that way, the airport desk that may be your best way out. Another possibility is YMCA or a hostel.

Yes but I don’t recommend it….your options will be limited and expensive.

well, ya. but I generally had a list of places in a guidebook with addresses/phone numbers to check out myself upon arrival. generally you can save some money by doing it that way.
fancier hotels prefer to have reservations.
On busy holidays and even just for a weekend, you are better to have reservations.
but wandering around to different places is a great way to see more of a city. it just tends to suck if you have a large piece of luggage with you. so pack light if you do that.

I think it’s not so difficult to find a room at star hotel or Motel.
    But depend season.
