I can not find a fligth from birmingham to zielona gora in poland?
As far as I know, you cannot fly to Poland from Birmingham, except with Sky Europe, who fly to Krakow on Mondays, Thursday, Fridays and Sundays.
They are a no-frills airline.

This is not an answer to your question, but when you get to Zielona Gora, will you try and find an old friend of mine, we have lost touch and that is where he comes from. His name is Sylwester Mackochowski…. Thanks, it’s a longshot I know, but if you don’t ask , you don’t get do you. Good Luck and I hope you get there safely.

Looks like Zielona Gora airport is very small, and only served by LOT Polish Airlines currently. Also, Ryanair serve Poznan from Liverpool, if that could work for you.

I think they only do one way from Poland I don’t think there’s enough going back to make it viable

Zielona Gora is only a small airport, so it doesn’t have many international flights. You will probably have to book a flight from Birmingham to Frankfurt, then Warsaw, then Zielona Gora. Use the airport codes on a website like Expedia to find the flights. BHX = Birmingham, IEG = Zielona Gora
