How many family vacations do you regularly take in a year?
Vacations can burn in a hole in the pocket esp. with kiddos and all the gears! Not to mention always running low on paid leave from work…
But this year, that’s only going to be 2hrs (by car) from home… I just can’t imagine taking my little guy on a plane! And besides he doesn’t sit well in the car seat for more than an hour, that is his limit!
You are right, vacations can be expensive. My Dad always said lay out everything you want to pack for your trip on your bed. Take half of what you lay out, and twice the money!
Last year we ended up taking two trips a few weeks apart (one was a wedding) with a 5 month old. Ugh! I was more tired at the end of the month than I was before the "vacations".
To me I would rather skip the "big trips" until my son is really ready to appreciate them, and there is less gear to take with him. I hope one day I can pack for a family trip with out a 10 page list of times not to forget!

What is your opinion on volunteer vacations?
There are more and more organizations popping up offering "volunteer vacations" where one goes and volunteers their time and skills in usually a foreign country. Aside from Habitat for Humanity or Doctor’s Without Borders, I would very much like to know anyone’s experiences with organizations like those. I get the sense that these "programs" are no better than one going out there on their own and spending less money for the same or better benefit of the particular community. In mind I have particular organizations that are bad at organizing any volunteer work and worse at providing adequate funding. I just would like to know if there are people with first hand experience who truly believe that the organizations they vacationed with were very beneficial.
When hurricane Katrina wiped out New Orleans,i Voulenteered My help for the first time in my life with The RED CROSS.At our breifing and first meeting here in California about travel and otherthings,We were told That The Red Cross Required each voulenteer had a Valid Drivers Lisence. At the time I only had my valid Ca.State I.D.
We were told we would recieve a VISA Debit Card For each voulenteer with the amount of $800 dollars for food or whatever we wanted…One Of the Guys that Had been with the RED CROSS said " You dont have to use the card ,You can take out the cash at an atm when you arrive back home and just say u used it in New Orleans. That,I thought was wrong. he also said" we usually get together for drinks so save some of your money for partying. Again,I thought "well ,thats wrong." And I was told that each voulenteer needed a valid Drivers Lisence because we all get a rental Car. Again, Wrong. I wasnt able to go because of my driving status but thought to myself later "No one is using cars ,its flooded, also where was anyone going to party when this big disaster was unfolding and people needed help?
I then realized after my anger subsided that The Red Cross was a joke and was really mis-managing Funds. People around the world were pouring in with Donations and The R.C. was buying VISA CARDS w/$800 each for each volunteer and rental cars. Here I was,A perfectly capable person to help with shelters, with giving out food, and moral support for the victims. I was angry and I told myself I will never donate any money to the Red Cross again.months later we all saw on the news how the Director of the Red Cross was held accountable for mis-management and mis handeling of funds. The Red Cross to me is a Racket with people using donations for comfartability and there amusement as they wished. So wrong!!!

Is there any law that requires schools to give students vacations?
I’m curious. I’ve heard that it’s against the law for a school to keep students in school for more than 10 weeks without giving them some kind of break. Now, I tried to find this "law," but came up with nothing. Is there any law that requires schools to give their students vacations/breaks? And if so, where is it stated?
No, that sort of thing is not governed by law,it is governed by the state’s education policy, which may or may not set out school opening periods.

Vacations for families with a handicap child?
my family and I always go to the same places for vacation because i have a brother who is in a wheel chair. We wanted to go some place different like Hawaii or something fun like that but it is hard because of my brother. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any travel places that specialize in planning vacations for people who have disabilities? All different types of places including other countries are options for us.
A little info about him: he is 17 , in a wheel chair and has cerebral palsy.
so if anyone has any ideas or knows of a website or a travel place that specializes or can help us plan a trip for next year that would be great.
My daughter is in a wheel chair, and we just got back from Disney world recently.
When planning the trip, Disney was most helpful, and accommodating

Is the European Vacations Ltd free holiday offer some kind of scam?
I’ve had an offer of a free holiday for 2 to Turkey (inc flights & accommodation, though there may be seasonal supplements and half board supplements to pay) from European Vacations Ltd. They ask for £20 admin fee up front. They say it’s nothing to do with time-share sales. Has anyone taken up this offer? Is it a scam? Are there hidden extras? Or was it a decent holiday? Why are they doing it?
It is a genuine offer, I paid the £20 admin fee and went to Turkey with my wife this February. The only thing we had to pay was the seasonal supplement. We also chose to take the half board option but that was a personal choice, there is no compulsion. The tour was very well organised, we stayed in some really good hotels and had a brilliant time. The tour guides are officially licensed by the Turkish Tourist board and speak excellent English and are very helpful.
European Vacations market the holidays in this way in the hope that satisfied clients will recommend them to their friends. The Turkish tourist Board gains from having people visit their beautiful country and also spending money in some of their state owned shops (but again that is optional expenditure) If you go, you would benefit from having an extremely good value holiday. I have now been on three European Vacations holidays, Paris, Italy and Turkey and can definitely confirm there is no time share sales, or scam. What you get is a superb tour with knowledgeable guides at bargain prices.
