Political Leaders Must Grasp Final Chance for Doha Deal
Financial Times,
March 1, 2007

Letter from the International Chamber of Commerce published in the Financial Times regarding the importance of successfully concluding the Doha Round of WTO negotiations.

The American Business Coalition for Doha (ABCDoha) is an umbrella group of companies, associations and other organizations dedicated to achieving ambitious results from the current round of multilateral trade negotiations in the World Trade Organization, known as the Doha Development Agenda or Doha Round.

ABCDoha was launched on October 25, 2005 to demonstrate the collective commitment of the American business community to achieving an agreement by the end of 2006 that reflects the full potential of Doha. We will work closely over the coming months with the U.S. Administration, Congress, WTO leadership, our colleagues in other WTO member countries, and other NGOs to see that a Doha Round agreement is:

Ambitious. Only a strong agreement will yield commercially significance results for American businesses, farmers, consumers and workers.

Balanced. All countries must contribute if all countries are to gain. At the same time, opportunities to maximize developmental benefits must be considered integrally across the negotiations to achieve an outcome in which all participants can feel invested.

Comprehensive. The Doha round cannot be considered a success unless it delivers commitments to meaningful and comprehensive liberalization across services, industrial, and agricultural trade alike.

And, delivers:

Doha results. We cannot miss this once-in-a-generation opportunity to reach an agreement that will bring the trading system into the 21st century and secure future economic growth of the U.S. and global economy.
